He subsequently earned additional degrees and certifications, most notably in the Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma areas, including MBA studies at Pepperdine Graziadio school of Business and later joined United Technologies (Hamilton Sundstrand division) Worldwide Repair Services in Long Beach, Ca., to focus on the other side of the ECS coin, in repair and maintenance of these same products. After 9/11, HSLB decided to consolidate their Long Beach operations into other states, and facing a choice between up and moving their families, or possible search for new employment, Sam and his colleagues chose a third alternative of creating their own path. Their company, Qualified Technologies, headquartered in Upland, Ca., repairs and overhauls environmental systems for single aisle aircraft, such as the ubiquitous 737, around the globe, for customers such as Lufthansa, SkyWest Airlines, and others. In their own words, living the dream; here is Sam to talk about his early stages of raising capital, and the complexity of investor selections.
