Description

The First at Two music series is proud to present organist Sue Flaatten as she plays A Hymn Tour through the Liturgical Year. The program will feature hymn arrangements for Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter and Pentecost, from the Baroque to the present. Flaatten had this to say about her First at Two performance, “Hymns are an ancient way of worshiping, going back to the Psalms. There are so many incredible melodies to reflect the thoughts and feelings of each traditional liturgical season. There’s anticipation, joy, longing, reflection, sorrow, passion, elation and hope. All are expressed through hymns, both ancient and modern. I’ll be playing a sampling from the treasury of sacred music.” First at Two’s mission is to offer free concerts to make the musical arts more accessible to more people, and to fund local non-profit organizations. A goodwill offering from the performance will benefit Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, a non-profit agency that provides housing, supportive services and community outreach to help homeless and at-risk veterans and their families achieve self-sufficiency. Begun in 2014, First at Two offers free concerts in an effort to make the musical arts more accessible to more people. Held seasonally at the First Congregational United Church of Christ Naperville, a free-will offering at every concert benefits a community not-for-profit organization.
