Songs that have withstood the test of time, with a touch of something more...
Musical compositions that have withstood the test of time. Widely known, they are performed by jazz artists worldwide, enjoyed by musicians and listeners. Bringing comfort and familiarity, they create the nostalgia associated with a different time, changing their scope as time marches on. While songs of the 30s and 40s certainly fall into the standards category, songs of the 60s are now added to the ever-growing list.
Beth Duncan has put together such a grouping of classics. In addition to the Johnny Mandel, Paul Francis Weber classic, The Shadow of Your Smile, renditions include other songs not limited to a specific genre. You know, “not exactly standards.” A dash of Bossa and a pinch of originality, such as several tunes written by Martine Tabilio, all stirred, blended, and performed expertly by Beth, backed by the Joe Gilman Trio.
