Creating a quality care environment for today’s families is every early care professional’s job. Providing consistent and quality “customer service” to all families is a challenge faced by many child care programs. Whether it is providing general information about a program, addressing a contentious parent/staff situation, enforcing policies or helping families navigate a difficult program transition, customer service is a critical aspect of building trust with families who entrust the care of their children to, oftentimes, strangers. Ensuring that all child care staff are equipped with customer services skills and strategies that serve every family will ensure that families know they are valued and respected.
