Affirming the importance of Empowerment-Based Black History
In an effort to affirm the importance of empowerment based Black History education, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, the Frederick Douglass Foundation (FDF) of Maryland will host a “Black History Unleased” Program. The program will begin at the Severna Park Community center at 6:30 PM. The program will feature presentations from former White House officials, curriculum authors, and history scholars.
“Teaching our children about the vital role Black Americans have played in shaping our nation is of vital importance,” said FDF Maryland Chairman Torrey Snow. “Frederick Douglass understood the immense power of education as a tool of liberation, and we continue to affirm that.”
FDF Member LaToya Nkongolo states, “History is an account of lessons learned. There is no need to exclude the ugly aspects of American history, but that does not create an obligation to overlook the triumphs of our nation.”
Members of the public, elected officials, and school board members are invited to join us for an exciting evening. Attendees will have a chance to preview the transformational Black History 365 curriculum, meet with community stakeholders in the preservation of Black History, and explore recommendations for advancing quality black history education. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Frederick Douglass Foundation is a national education and public policy organization with local chapters across the United States.
