Rochester, NY has seen 67 homicides in 2021 in which the majority of those dead were, Black... Miquel Powell, BSW is the Executive Director of The Reentry & Community Development Center, Inc. He is a well known social worker, substance abuse therapist, and community activist. Mr. Powell served six years in NYS prison for a violent felony conviction. He was once a self-proclaimed, "well-known drug dealer". Mr. Powell believes that in order to address gun violence there must first be a deep level of understanding of its true cause coupled with realistic resolution to dismantle it from our communities. With an undying love for the Rochester, NY community Mr. Powell has been one of the most vocal Black men regarding what he calls "Black Death" or "Black Murder". Since January 2020, there has been more than 120 homicides in the City of Rochester; mostly Black men and women. On November 20th, 2021 Mr. Powell will deliver a speech entitled, 'Black Murder: The Truth About The Cause & Addressing Gun Violence in Rochester, NY'. You don't want to miss this event!! Admission is $15 (Children under 12 & Adults 60 over FREE) "Rebuilding lives & communities, together." This community event is presented by The Reentry & Community Development Center. It has been planned by Miquel Powell, BSW, volunteers, and other community activists.
