Jordan Smith of the Mohawk Nation, Bear Clan , and Kehala Smith of Turtle Clan demonstrate and teach traditional Haudenosaunee social dance As a means of expression, a language in itself, and a powerful, highly regarded storytelling device, dance is an all-important part of many Native American cultures. Jordan Smith of the Mohawk Nation, Bear Clan , and Kehala Smith of Turtle Clan will demonstrate and teach traditional Haudenosaunee social dances. Instructors will share stories and songs about the dances and discuss the role dance plays in Native American life as social activity, heritage, and as a form of prayer. Some of the dances include: The New Women's Shuffle, honors women as the givers of life; The Round Dance, a dance of friendship Corn Dance, a celebration of nature and a way to give thanks to the Creator for the bounty he has given. Audience members will be invited to perform in each dance, making for a very interactive, educational and entertaining program.
