MEDFORD, MA — The 2021 municipal election will be held Nov. 2 in Medford. There will be contested races for mayor, city council and school committee. First-term mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn will try to fend off a challenge from her former colleague, City Councilor John Falco. There are 14 candidates, including five incumbents, running for seven city council seats, and 12 candidates, including five incumbents, running for six spots on the school committee. Two longtime elected officials announced their retirements this year – Michael Marks, who served 20 years on the city council and six years on the school committee, and Paulette Van der Kloot, who served 32 years on the school committee. Medford Patch sent out a questionnaire to all candidates in contested races and published profiles for those who submitted answers. Those profiles are linked below. Mail-in voting Registered voters can request a mail-in ballot. To do so, complete an application (must be physically signed) and return it to the Registrars of Voters Office. The form is available at www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/2021-Vote-by-Mail-Application.pdf. Apply as early as possible. The city will mail ballot packs as soon as ballots arrive at City Hall. Voters can return the ballot by mail, bring it to City Hall during business hours, or drop it into the Mail Drop Box outside of City Hall (Clippership Drive) side entrance.
