Description

MANCHESTER, CT — Democrat Tim Bergin, 36, is running for Board of Directors in Manchester. Occupation: Policy Director Family:Wife, Jen, a teacher for Manchester Public Schools and son, Kason, who attends Manchester Community College. Experience: Board of Directors Family in government: My wife who teaches are Verplank Elementary. My older brother is a supervisor with DCF and my youngest brother is a prosecutor in Massachusetts. The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: The smart investment of federal COVID relief dollars: we have an opportunity to address serious issues like employment, support for small businesses, and and youth violence prevention. But we will have to do so in a way that doesn't create fiscal cliffs and affect property taxes down the down. Critical differences between me and my opponents: I've worked in public policy for almost a decade and have a degree in public administration. I have a very pragmatic, and I'd like to think proven, and approach to accomplishing goals for the Board and for Manchester. Accomplishments: Democrats passed two Town budgets without raising property taxes and yet still invested in renovating schools and parks and and local COVID relief and recovery. Other issues: We were among the first CT towns to declare racism a public health crisis. We created a position at our Health Department dedicated to coordinating care for people of color during the pandemic. We established a Civilian Review and Relations Board, hired a social worker at the Police Department, created a Rooney Rule for hiring, and and put money behind our pursuit of having town staff reflect the demographics of our town. What else would you like voters to know about you? I'm incredibly accessible. If you need help, I will happily navigate local government to get you an answer. If you're reading about some inflammatory issue in the JI, and just reach out and we can look at the resolution together.
