PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton chapter of the National Charity League began its annual membership drive on Thursday and is seeking members for the nation's premier mother-daughter volunteer organization, the group announced. The local chapter currently has about 300 members and is open to mothers with daughters in the sixth through the ninth grade and who live in Pleasanton. Last year, the local chapter of mothers and daughters combined to volunteer more than 5,000 philanthropy hours and worked with 33 local philanthropic organizations including Hively, Meals On Wheels, Open Heart Kitchen, Pleasanton Unified School District and Pleasanton Senior Center. Recent volunteering activities included helping to make Halloween-themed crafts for local senior citizens, volunteering for the library book sale and helping out with downtown ghost walks. "We are excited to welcome new mothers and daughters into our chapter. Our aim is develop the leadership skills and community service mindset of young women while strengthening the mother-daughter bond," said Alison Huff, National Charity League Pleasanton chapter president, said in a news release. Applications are accepted only once a year and the membership drive will run through Jan. 28. Interested mothers are encouraged to attend a prospective member meeting ay 7 p.m. on December 7, which will be held virtually on Zoom. Interested parties will receive an invitation once they complete a membership application on the local chapter's website. The National Charity League was established in Los Angeles in 1925 and develops socially responsible community leaders and strengthens the mother-daughter bond. The core program includes leadership development, community service, and cultural experiences. Last year, members contributed more than 2.5 million volunteer hours to more than 6,000 local philanthropy partners and their chapters, resulting in a $68.7 million fiscal impact, the group said in a news release.
