PALM DESERT, CA — A man the sheriff's department describes as a documented gang member was arrested Thursday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after avoiding arrest since June.
Robert "Lil Rob" Cruz, 40, was nabbed by Riverside County sheriff's deputies Thursday as they conducted an arrest warrant in the 49000 block of Highway 74 in Palm Desert, according to Sgt. Paul Heredia. Cruz was delivering furniture to a residence for a local furniture store where he is employed as a delivery man, Heredia said.
An arrest warrant was issued for Cruz in June for alleged crimes of assault with a deadly weapon and witness intimidation, the sergeant said.
Cruz was arrested without incident and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on $1 million bail.
He is expected to make his initial appearance at the Larson Justice Center on Monday.
