IURC Approves CenterPoint's Solar Plans

By John Gibson, WNIN Oct. 29, 2021 The state has approved CenterPoint Energy's plans for solar power facilities in Posey and Warrick counties. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved a 300-megawatt solar development in Posey and a 100-megawatt facility in Warrick. On its website, CenterPoint said Arevon Energy Management and Tenaska are developing the 3,000-acre project in rural Marrs Township. It's scheduled to begin operating in 2023. The project has drawn opposition from residents and farmers concerned about property values, safety, and quality of life. Centerpoint plans to replace its coal-burning A.B. Brown power plant in Posey County. Bloomington-based Hoosier Energy plans to purchase power from the Warrick County development. CenterPoint has said it's committed to a goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2035. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
