CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire's attorney general has joined nine other states in suing President Joe Biden and federal government officials regarding federal contractor COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Attorney General John Formella said the state was joining Missouri, Nebraska, Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming to file a lawsuit against the federal government for imposing the mandate. In early September, Biden announced the vaccine requirement via executive order as part of his "Path Out of the Pandemic: COVID-19 Action Plan" requiring any contractor, for the duration of the contract, to be forced to take a coronavirus vaccine within 60 days of beginning work. Contractor supervisors, as part of the plan, need to review documents and provide that information to the federal government. Biden stated, repeatedly, both before the 2020 presidential election and after, that he would not issue a mandate nor did he have the power, as president, to require the mandate. "The state has made clear that the available COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and that every eligible person in New Hampshire is encouraged to get a COVID-19 vaccine," Formella said after joining the lawsuit. "That said, the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine do not justify violating the law. This lawsuit is being filed to protect the state of New Hampshire from the federal government's attempt to impose illegal mandates." Ann McLane Kuster, along with 20 other Congressional representatives, are calling leadership to remove the IRS reporting provision in the reconciliation package under negotiation. Kuster, who originally supported the proposal, said during the past few weeks, she "heard from thousands of constituents" concerned about the "enhanced reporting" by banks to the treasury. She added while she supported efforts "to ensure that the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans pay their fair share," the proposal "is overly broad and would sweep up sensitive financial information from middle-class Granite Staters." Kuster called for "a more targeted approach" to combating tax evasion while also protecting the privacy of middle-class families. Banking and credit union officials thanked Kuster for hearing the concerns of customers in New Hampshire.
