TROY, MI — Construction on Adams Road in between Long Lake Road and Square Lake road will extend into next year, according to the Road Commission for Oakland County. The $2.8 million project - which started in June - was supposed to be finished by late October. But, the road commission said in a news release the contractor, Pro-Line Asphalt was not able to meet the deadline, and the project will remain unfinished through the winter. However, the road commission mandated that Pro-Line Asphalt complete work on northbound Adams road and put down temporary asphalt on its southbound lanes so two-way traffic can resume by Nov. 2, according to a news release. "We are extremely disappointed in this contractor, and apologize to the residents, businesses and motorists who rely on this road on behalf of the contractor," RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar said. "We believe the contract was set up with sufficient time to complete the work within the contract parameters, even in an unusual year marked by COVID-related challenges and greater than normal rain. We believe the contractor simply failed to fulfill its obligations." Live in Troy? Click here to subscribe to our free breaking news alerts delivered to your inbox and mobile devices. "We will aggressively pursue damages against the contractor as provided for in the contract. In the meantime, thank you for your patience as we navigate this frustrating situation," Kolar said. Since the project was partially paid for with federal dollars, the contract is between the Michigan Department of Transportation and Pro-Line, which means the road commission must pursue damages through MDOT. Pro-Line Asphalt did not immediately respond for comment.
