The City Council will consider a reallocation of $50,000 in Northport First Funds, which is the revenue generated by the city's 1-cent sale tax, to be put toward improvements for the park at the Robert Hasson Community Center. The improvements will address replacing damaged playground equipment. The funding was first earmarked for new basketball courts at Kentuck Park, with the reallocation previously approved by the Council's Finance Committee in August. If approved, one agenda item would see the city open up the option for certain "persons and entities" to request and pay for services of the Northport Police Department. This could be beneficial for the department, as it would create an additional revenue stream, while working in tandem to make the community a safer place.Residents and commuters on Charlie Shirley Road will be excited to hear that the City Council is set to vote on a contract for Burk-Kleinpeter to handle the design, in addition to the Construction Engineering/Inspection (CEI) for the road's highly-anticipated resurfacing project. Here's a look at the full agenda for Monday ... Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
