Description

An annual benefit celebrating Grayson County's old-time music history. Join the Spencer family and friends in honoring Thornton Spencer. The historic 1908 Courthouse in Independence, Va. is the site of the inaugural Legends of Grayson Old-Time Weekend on April 1-2, 2022. Benefitting Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) and The Mt. Rogers School, this festive weekend celebration honors the music greats who continue to influence new generations. The 2022 honorees are Thornton Spencer and Helen White. Legends of Grayson is a related event of The Crooked Road and is developed by Grayson County Tourism and Peach Bottom Partners. It's two days of music, history, storytelling, dance, workshops and fun in heart of the Blue Ridge. Capped by two nights of concerts by The Whitetop Mountain Band and friends, plus master-led workshops and jams with lively roundtable storytelling by those who lived the experience. Featured performers and speakers include Emily, Martha and Kilby Spencer, as well as Wayne Henderson, Debbie and Brian Grim, Steve Kilby, Wayne Erbsen, Tom Barr, Jim Lloyd and Malcolm Smith. There's also a special tribute to JAM founder Helen White led by Grayson's own Brett Morris. Food that offers "A Taste of Grayson" available both days with plenty of lodging nearby. All part of a complete experience you'll never forget. Email hosts at this site for more details. Refunds offered if COVID-`19 protocols restrict venue access.
