On Friday, November 5 at 8 p.m., the Englewood Public Library will screen two short films and have some pizza with Director/Producer Justin Messina as we watch ‘Gemma’ and its sequel, ‘Tristan,’ on the library’s main floor. Q & A with the director will follow the screenings. The program is free and open to the public and no registration is required. ‘Gemma’ (2018; 12 mins. Not rated) is about a young woman who finds herself caught in a violent web of human trafficking. But she isn't everything she seems! ‘Gemma’ stars Tamara Diaz as Gemma. The film also stars Jon-Michael Carozza, Dakota Rilleau, Esperanza Pacheco, Danny Dispoto and Ed Martini. 'Gemma' was an Official Selection of the Urban Action Showcase International Film Festival, Action on Film Megafest, and Hollywood Dreams International Film Festival. ‘Gemma’ is Messina's writing and directorial debut. ‘Tristan’ is Messina's sequel to ‘Gemma.’ ‘Tristan’ follows the titular character as he tries to help a young woman who has escaped from a human trafficking ring. The film stars Erin Etheridge and Leonidas Giannopoulos. The film was nominated for Best Action Short at the 2021 Action on Film Festival and was screened at the Chain NYC Film Festival.
