Celebrating Day of the Dead with Food, Drink, Music, Poetry, Catrinas/Catrin, Community Altar, Store: items for altar & home. $10 Ticket 7 PM. Tasting of traditional Dia de Muertos Cuisine will commence the evening. You will taste mole, tamales, pan de muerto, ponche, and chocolate, cempasuchil infused tequila. 8 PM. Music for Remembering the Dead - the most beloved songs will be performed by entertainer/vocalist Marta Salazar. 8:30 PM - 9:30 PM. Calaveras Literarias by Poet/Artist Nephtali De Leon. He will perform calaveras from his elaborate collection. Calaveras Literarias are poems written about living people. They poke fun at them and place them in funny situations. In the end, la Calaca or la Flaca (Death), takes them away. It reminds us that we are mortal and should not fear death for it is an inevitable journey we must all take. Calaveritas by local poets Tammy Melody Gomez, Ofelia Faz-Garza, Marta Salazar, and Sylvana Flores Avila will also be presented. Altar. The centerpiece of Day of the Dead is the altar. Bring a photo of your loved one that has passed on to add it to the community altar. Store. You may purchase Day of the Dead products, merchandise, and altar pieces for your home. The Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts is a nonprofit 501c3 located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas.  It was founded in 1995 by a group of artists and art advocates seeking to promote the arts and education in Oak Cliff.  The OCCA logo is a flower formed by its members.  OCCA is "where the arts bloom."
