Description
An exclusive concert at a historic estate. Join the Friends of Willow Hall for a private reception followed by a delightful recital. Join us at historic Willow Hall for the first concert in our 2021-2022 Friends of Willow Hall Recital Series! Start off with a light reception before the concert and enjoy an intimate recital in our 1848 historic home. Doors open at 2:15, concert starts promptly at 3:00. Enjoy an inspiring and uplifting interactive recital with Carol Walker, who will share her unique collection of Appalachian mountain dulcimers as she performs Celtic, old-time, classical, and Americana folk favorites. And, as usual, a Carol Walker show always has few surprises along the way! Carol Walker’s formal training includes a degree in Music Education and for 32 years of work as a high school choral teacher in northern NJ, receiving the NJ Governor’s Teacher of the Year Award, and retiring in 2008. Carol soon found ways to combine her love of teaching with her new direction in folk music, and has been a popular workshop leader at dulcimer festivals across the United States. She has competed on three occasions at the famous Winfield (KS) Mountain Dulcimer Championship, where each time she placed in the Top Five Finalists. Carol has traveled twice to the Isle of Man where she has done extensive research into traditional Manx music, producing two books of arrangements for mountain dulcimer (Tailless Tunes and Tailless Tunes 2) and a CD (Alas! The Horse is Gone), all exclusively devoted to this delightful Celtic-flavored music. Carol has also written three other instructional dulcimer books, DNA* Dulcimer Ditties. In 2015, Carol released her first instructional DVD (Exploring the Beauty of the Appalachian Dulcimer), produced by Happy Traum of Homespun Tapes in Woodstock, NY. A book of classical melodies appeared in 2017: Classical Dulcimer - Cwassical Favowites awwanged by Cawol Walker. A book of favorite hymns, was released in 2019. Its title, Church in the Wildwood, was inspired by a visit to the Little Brown Church in Iowa. Carol’s latest book, slated for release in late 2021, is a set of arrangements written specifically for dulcimer ensembles of all sizes, entitled Many Hands, Many Dulcimers.
