Athena was rescued from the riverside animal shelter after being placed on the euthanasia list. We have been fostering her for a few weeks and are now looking for her forever family! She is a Belgian malinois mix. I believe she is mixed with a bully breed. The shelter estimated her to be a year old but I think she is a little older than that. She does really well with other dogs, males and females, but I think she would be happiest as the center of attention at home. She is Spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. She loves to give hugs and is excellent comic relief. She’s a good protector, but also sweet and gentle. She was a stray before the shelter so she still needs some training, which we have been working on. I wouldn’t recommend a home with children less than 10 until she can be fully trained because she does like to climb on you. She is a big girl, 60+ lbs. I don’t know how she is around cats or other animals, besides dogs. She is potty trained and she doesn’t chew things. I am hoping to find someone with Malinois experience, at minimum I am looking for someone with large breed rescue dog experience. She is a literal angel, but she has been through a lot. She needs empathy, patience and a calm environment to thrive. I want her to go the best home possible so I will be very picky.
