Description

Join us for our ongoing series of LA community screenings of Manzanar, Diverted: When Water Becomes Dust. Join the Our Water LA Coalition and other community based organizations to celebrate our water that travels from faraway places with a free outdoor community screening of Manzanar, Diverted: When Water Becomes Dust. This film follows intergenerational women from three communities who defend their land, history and culture from the insatiable thirst of Los Angeles. In this poetic portrait of a place and its people, this fresh retelling of the LA water story shows Native Americans, Japanese-American WWII incarcerees and environmentalists forming an unexpected alliance to preserve Payahuunadü (Owens Valley), “the land of flowing water,” raising questions about LA’s dependence on stolen water. Panel to follow screening. Panelists TBA. Organized by Pacoima Beautiful and San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center Made possible by Firelight Media Impact Fund, Chicken & Egg Project: Hatched, and the Redford Center Grant
