Documentarian Ken Burns said that the U.S. is in the midst of the fourth “great crisis” in its history.“We’re beset by three viruses, a year-old COVID-19 virus, but also a 402-year-old virus of white supremacy, of racial injustice. And we’ve got an age-old human virus of misinformation, of paranoia, of conspiracies.”During this live-audience recorded panel discussion, Mark Fleischer will talk with three Memphis historians about this moment in time. Hear from distinguished guests including:Willy Bearden, filmmaker, photographer, author and producer. Recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Achievement Award in the Creative and Performing Arts presented by the College of Communication and Fine Arts at the University of Memphis. Wayne Dowdy, senior librarian and archivist at the Memphis Public Library and Information Center. In 2015 he was awarded the Tennessee Historical Commission's Certificate of Merit for his book On This Day in Memphis History.Otis Sanford, Hardin Chair of Excellence in Economic and Managerial Journalism at the University of Memphis. In 2014, Otis Sanford was inducted into the Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame.
