The tracker is updated as regularly as possible. More than 25 homicides occurred in August, according to medical examiner data. There have been 20 in October so far. "As a city we are simply not doing enough, not investing enough, to prevent violence," Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic said in a joint statement. "It is on us to make sure we are directing adequate resources and upscaling the best programming possible to help prevent violence." The city also saw a 79 percent increase in domestic violence deaths last year, the alderwomen said. Gov. Tony Evers announced Oct. 13 that $45 million would go to violence prevention and victim support in Wisconsin cities such as Milwaukee as the city's homicide rate reached the top five in the nation.
