MILWAUKEE, WI — The number of homicides in Milwaukee county in 2021 are set to overtake the number in 2020, Milwaukee County Medical Examiner Brian Peterson said Thursday.

The tracker is updated as regularly as possible.
More than 25 homicides occurred in August, according to medical examiner data. There have been 20 in October so far.
"As a city we are simply not doing enough, not investing enough, to prevent violence," Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic said in a joint statement. "It is on us to make sure we are directing adequate resources and upscaling the best programming possible to help prevent violence."
The city also saw a 79 percent increase in domestic violence deaths last year, the alderwomen said.
Gov. Tony Evers announced Oct. 13 that $45 million would go to violence prevention and victim support in Wisconsin cities such as Milwaukee as the city's homicide rate reached the top five in the nation.
