ISLIP, NY —Chris Wade narrowly missed claiming his first Professional Fighter's League (PFL) title Wednesday night, but ultimately conceded the designation of featherweight champion to Russian rival Movlid Khaybulaev.
Khaybulaev out-grappled Islip-raised Wade, winning the $1 million prize with a unanimous decision.
This year was the first time 34-year-old Wade made it to the PFL final, after losing in semifinals in 2018 and 2019.
In a video for PFL MMA, he says he felt lucky to grow up on Long Island and that the fight was "Long Island versus Dagestan...two of the toughest places in the world."
