FALMOUTH, MA — The Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been canceled following Wednesday's nor'easter.
As of Thursday afternoon, the storm left 77 percent of Falmouth without power. Gov. Charlie Baker said Falmouth and other impacted Massachusetts communities could be without electricity for several days. Falmouth fire officials said there are more than 100 emergency crew members in town working to restore power.
Given the situation, marathon organizers spoke with town officials and determined the safest thing to do would be canceling the race.
"We have started discussions on what options runners will have and will let you know as soon as possible," a spokesperson for the Cape Cod Marathon said in an Instagram post.
