STAMFORD, CT — Election Day on Nov. 2 is fast approaching, and there are a number of key races on the ballot in Stamford. Patch reached out to candidates for local office to get more information on their campaigns and the issues that are facing the city. Independent David A. Wilburn, 49, is running for Board of Representatives - District 18 in Stamford. Occupation: Technology Executive Family: Elizabeth (wife), Ethan (son), Emily (daughter) Experience: None Family in government: No The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: Overbuilding and densification and taxes Critical differences between me and my opponents: I don't know the other candidates well enough, or at all really, and I'm not a big fan of speaking ill of others in an attempt to make myself look good. I am a fan of being transparent and direct, though. It is vital to have conversations with everyone regardless of their political affiliation. It is also important to have a dialogue with other representatives in neighboring districts in hopes of aligning on similar goals that are achievable. Too often, expectations are set artificially high, and then inevitably, people are disappointed, or worse, lose faith and respect in their representative. My background positions me well for this role, and my ability to articulate concrete ideas and communicate at all levels gives me a competitive edge. Accomplishments: I've managed substantial technology projects over the past 15 years. To be successful, you have to compromise, evaluate risk, and communicate at all levels. Most importantly, you have to have a well-thought-out plan and be able to execute against it. Managing multiple concurrent projects is table stakes when representing a community, which I do pretty well in my day-to-day work life. Other issues: Promote technology to improve education and access to city servicesHelp to control taxesImprove roads, traffic, and and congestionSupport small businessEffect change What else would you like voters to know about you? It should never be about a "party" winning. People should vote on character and individuals and what they can do to better the community and support their interests. Public LinkedIn profile
