Buy a Turkey, Run 1 mile with a Turkey, Donate a Turkey then have a few beers and act like a Turkey. All for a great cause. One of West Chester’s most unique runs is trotting our way! It’s Kildare’s of West Chester’s eleventh annual (we had to skip 2020) Running of the Turkeys, where costumed competitors will once again carry frozen turkeys through the streets of West Chester in this one-mile fun run before donating their big bird to John DeBella’s annual Turkey Drop. Many of the runners take the best costume competition more seriously than being the fastest runner! Previous participants have dressed as pilgrims, Santa Clauses and even turkeys. Runners have been known to carry their frozen bird in innovative ways, too, including in backpacks, wagons and baby strollers. So if you plan on running, be creative! It’s a sight to see, and it’s all happening on Sunday, November 21st, with a great post-race party at Kildare’s. Join other runners at 10am, when registration opens for the 1 mile run while carrying a frozen turkey. This race will only cost you the price of one frozen turkey that is donated to charity. ALL TURKEYS AND PROCEEDS ARE DONATED TO THE ANNUAL JOHN DEBELLA TURKEY DROP. THIS IS THE 11TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUNS, SO WE WANT TO MAKE IT BIGGER THAN EVER. If you’re unable to purchase your turkey in advance, a limited number of turkeys will be on sale at Kildare’s the day of the race. You’re encouraged to get creative with not only your outerwear but also your carrying method. Prizes are being donated from local businesses and will be awarded for the following categories: *Fastest Man, *Fastest Woman *Fastest Boy *Fastest Girl *Most Turkeys Carried *Most Creative Carry *Best Holiday Outfit *Heaviest Turkey. In 2019 we raised over 1500lbs of Turkey for charity. We also had 5 racers in the 100lb club. They carried at least 100lbs of Turkeys around the entire course. Good luck to all race participants!
