Press release from the City of Albany: Email Sarah Kampf October 28, 2021 We are seeking applications from qualified residents of the City of Albany for the following position: Title of Position Member, Sustainability Advisory Committee Term of Appointment Appointments are for a three-year term with eligibility for reappointment to an additional term of three years. Qualifications of Members Members of the Sustainability Advisory Committee shall reside in the City of Albany and possess a reputation for fairness, integrity and responsibility and have demonstrated an active interest in public affairs and service. The Common Council and the Mayor shall endeavor to reflect community diversity in their appointments, including income level, race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation and experience and shall, in their appointments, solicit recommendations from the community. Current employees of the City of Albany shall not be eligible for appointment. Position Responsibilities/Duties The Sustainability Advisory Committee consists of fifteen members, five of whom are appointed by the Mayor and five of whom are appointed by the Common Council. The remaining members of the Committee are: the Commissioner of the Department of General Services, the Commissioner of Planning and Development, the Commissioner of the Water Department, the City Engineer and the head of the Police Traffic Safety Unit, or their designees. The Committee meets once a month. The Sustainability Advisory Committee, established by the Common Council, was formed to help the City adopt and promote sustainable practices and to foster unified action on climate change. The Committee is expected to study and recommend methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency and renewable energy production, conserve resources, reduce waste and employ environmentally responsible products.
