MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown will receive state funding for road improvements. The state allocated $293,800 for roadwork on Valley View Drive, Ford Avenue and Headley Road. Greater Morristown's towns will receive more than $800,00 in state grants from New Jersey's Municipal Aid program. Morris Township will receive $339,000 for the Southgate Parkway Road Improvements Project, while Morris Plains will get $250,000 for Sunset Drive improvements. For the Municipal Aid program, staff from the New Jersey Department of Transportation reviewed 625 applications from 547 cities and towns. Ultimately, 541 municipalities will get 546 grants, totaling $161.25 million. "These funds are crucial to municipalities for the completion of projects that improve quality of life and safety for New Jersey residents," said Governor Phil Murphy. Under the Municipal Aid grant program, each county is apportioned a share of the total funding based on population and the number of local centerline miles. Municipalities compete for portions of their county's share. NJDOT provides 75 percent of the grant amount when a town awards a contract and the remaining 25 percent upon completion of the project.
