United Way of San Diego County announced Wednesday its inaugural "Holiday Crockpot Drive" for local military families experiencing food insecurity.
The nonprofit hopes to collect enough donations through Friday, Nov. 12 to purchase 200 new crockpots.
"Through this drive, UWSD is providing more than a crockpot," the UWSD said in a press release. "It's providing ways to cook at home, sustainability, the opportunity to stretch a dollar, and most importantly bringing families together over dinner. Each donation will contribute a lifetime of warm meals and memories for the families that sacrifice so much for our community and country."
On Thursday, Nov. 18, UWSD will hold a distribution event to pass out the crockpot donations collected to local military families in time for Thanksgiving.
Monetary donations can be made online via the UWSD website. The public can also drop off new crockpots at the front of the UWSD office at 4699 Murphy Canyon Rd., San Diego, CA 92123. In-person drop-offs can only be made on Wednesday, Nov. 3 and Wednesday, Nov. 10.
