Floodwater Closes River Road, Officials Wait For Levels To Recede

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — River Road remains closed between Taylorsville Road and Route 532 as of Thursday afternoon, according to the Upper Makefield Township Police Department. Upper Makefield Emergency Management had warned of possible minor flooding along the Delaware River on Wednesday, advising residents to pay attention to alerts and avoid driving through high water. Waters remain high along the closed roadway, which is often prone to flooding. "Please do not go around the signs and attempt to make it through the water," police wrote. "We will be watching." Now, emergency management officials will wait for the water to recede before declaring the road reopened. "Once any debris removal is complete, the road will be re-opened," Yardley Borough officials wrote Thursday morning. "Please make alternate travel arrangements." Originally projected to crest at 16 feet at the Washington Crossing Bridge and 20.1 feet near Trenton around noon Thursday, the river actually crested around 3 a.m. Thursday at slightly lower levels, according to the National Weather Service.
