MT. LEBANON, PA — Mt. Lebanon police and the Mt. Lebanon School District are investigating the discovery of a swastika made of masking tape that was found on the back of a dry erase board Wednesday at Jefferson Middle School. The incident occurred on the third anniversary of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in which 11 worshippers died, although Superintendent Timothy Steinhauer said the district has no evidence that the timing was intentional. "There is no place for this type of behavior in our school and community," Steinhauer wrote in a letter on the district website. "There is no tolerance for discriminatory behavior in our schools, and we will take appropriate disciplinary action for those found responsible for this incident." Jefferson principal Sarah Shaw has scheduled several educational activities that will take place this week related to the incident and is working with local rabbis to determine other responses to the event, Steinhauer said.
