Press release from the Village of Lisle:
October 27, 2021
Looking to avoid the fright that comes along with a rotting pumpkin? Don't trash it, smash it! Pumpkins will be collected for composting on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Commuter Parking Lot C, just south of Village Hall at 925 Burlington Avenue. Composting provides an excellent alternative to placing pumpkins curbside to be landfilled. Pumpkins are full of nutrients that are good for the soil and are 90% water. As most of the pumpkins processed in the U.S. are grown in the Midwest, composting pumpkins here helps keep the water and nutrients local.
The Village of Lisle brings this program to you in partnership with SCARCE, a non-profit dedicated to creating sustainable communities. To participate in the program, please clean all pumpkins and remove any candles, stickers or other decorations prior to drop-off. Staff and volunteers will be on site to assist with unloading pumpkins from vehicles.
