MALIBU, CA — Get your pups in their costumes this Saturday for the Trancas Canyon Market's Halloween event, which will include a puppy costume contest. The event, which will run from 12 to 2 p.m., will feature store-to-store trick-or-treating, live music from children's musician Parker Bent and a dog costume contest with 10 winners. The store owners at Trancas — nearly all of which are local women — put on programming for locals year round, said Melissa Smith, owner and creator of SweetBu Candy at the market. "The inspiration is really to get the community to have a place to be together ... we try to do things more for the locals at Trancas. In general, we try to create events at trances to bring local Malibu families to come together," Smith said. The market, located at 30745 Pacific Coast Highway, will be hosting events every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
