JOLIET, IL — A 15-year-old boy from Plainfield South High School is now staying at the Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles after Joliet police say he fought with a 17-year-old girl inside the Plainfield South auditorium. Afterward, the boy attacked one of the Joliet police detectives assigned as the liaison officer for the school, according to police. The 15-year-old Plainfield South student now faces one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of disorderly conduct. The 17-year-old girl was released to the custody of her parents, Joliet police said. She faces one charge of battery. The fight involving the boy and girl happened in Plainfield South's auditorium around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English. "While both were being escorted to the office by the detective and school officials, the female juvenile struck the male juvenile in the face," English announced. "While the female juvenile was being placed into custody, the male juvenile became verbally abusive towards the detective and repeatedly pushed the detective to get to the female juvenile." Joliet Patch reached out to Plainfield School District 202's director of community relations Tom Hernandez regarding Tuesday's two student arrests by Joliet police. "We do not comment on student discipline, however, the students will be subject to any appropriate disciplinary action from our side of things," Hernandez wrote back. "Beyond that, it is a police matter. We do not and will not tolerate such behavior."
