ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Election Day is Tuesday and here's what to expect when you cast your ballot. Among the races, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is up for reelection against Bruce Blakeman. State senator Todd Kaminsky looks to become Nassau County District Attorney. The Democrat is opposed by Anne Donnelly. For County Comptroller, Ryan Cronin (D) opposes Elaine Phillips. Locally, Howard Kopel is the incumbent in Nassau's 7th Legislative District, which encompasses Rockville Centre, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, East Rockaway, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, and parts of Hewlett, Lawrence, Baldwin, Valley Stream and Lynbrook. He's opposed by Democrat Lisa Daniels. In the 5th Legislative District, Debra Mule (D) is the incumbent. She faces Brian McEvoy. The 5th L.D. covers South Hempstead, Freeport, Baldwin, Baldwin Harbor, part of Merrick. The 6th Legislative District covers a portion of Rockville Centre, along with Lynbrook, Malverne, North Lynbrook and Valley Stream. C. William Gaynor is the incumbent. The challenger is Laura Burns. There are four statewide proposals on the ballot. This proposed constitutional amendment would freeze the number of state senators at 63. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?The proposed amendment to Article I of the New York Constitution would establish the right of each person to clean air and water and a healthful environment. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?The proposed amendment would delete the current requirement that a citizen be registered to vote at least ten days before an election and would allow the Legislature to enact laws permitting a citizen to register to vote less than ten days before the election. Shall the proposed amendment be approved?The proposed amendment would delete from the current provision on absentee ballots the requirement that an absentee voter must be unable to appear at the polls by reason of absence from the county or illness or physical disability.
