Sudbury Driver Couldn't Stop Before Fatal Worcester Collision: PD

WORCESTER, MA — A driver from Sudbury was unable to stop before hitting a man along Southwest Cutoff on Wednesday evening, according to Worcester police. The collision happened just after 7:30 p.m. along Southwest Cutoff near the Auburn-Worcester border. The 42-year-old driver, who was operating a Toyota Highlander SUV, told police she was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the man. "The preliminary investigation reveals that the Toyota Highlander was traveling east on the Southwest Cutoff when the crash occurred. As the operator approached the Auburn/Worcester line, she saw the pedestrian but was unable to stop in time. After striking the pedestrian, she ran over to assist the pedestrian who was unresponsive," police said. The 66-year-old victim died at a local hospital, police said. Police did not immediately announce any charges or infractions against the driver. Almost exactly one year ago, Mysti Lyn Campbell, 25, was hit and killed crossing in the same area where Wednesday's collision happened. Campbell and a 30-year-old man were crossing the road to get to a Wendy's where Campbell worked when a driver in a Jeep hit them.
