NORTHPORT, NY — Dalilah, Dill and Lavender, the longest-tenured residents of the Northport Cat Rescue Association, are the Northport Pets of the Week. Dalilah, a 2-year-old female black kitten with silky fur and soulful eyes, was adopted over a year ago, but she had to go back to the association when her owner fell ill, Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue, told Patch in an email. "She was so devasted that she did not do well in our habitats, so she needed to go into foster care," Wild said. "Since we can't show her off in our habitats it is harder for potential adopters to see her, although we are happy to arrange meet and greets." Dalilah has a sassy personality and is filled with love, according to Wild. She craves attention. "The moment someone walks into the room and calls her name she will come running, thankful for the few moments of affection and attention she receives," Wild said. "She will rub up against you, asking to be pet and grab you softly as you walk away to ask for more. You can pick her up and give her quick kisses. You can put her on your lap, and she will just quietly stare at you lowering her head for pets." Dalilah plays with her fellow foster cats. She stares out the sliding glass door into the rest of the foster home, but she is not yet courageous enough to leave her safe space. "She is doing amazing except for one thing," Wild said. "She is not home, and it's as if she knows it. She needs a family to call her own." Dill and Lavender, a bonded brother and sister, are 6-month-old kittens, growing up in the cat rescue's habitats. "It has become their norm, and each day they patiently wait for visitors and volunteers to play with," Wild said. "Although they were born in a loving home, they were surrendered. They were confused but still sweet as can be. We keep asking, 'how did this happen?' Beautiful markings, loving, silly and fun, they are the perfect pair. It is so hard to watch adorable kittens with trusting personalities slowly turn a little sad as they watch through their cage doors other kittens and cats being adopted, it is almost like they know what is happening." All three felines are waiting, and Wild said she hopes potential adopters will consider them. Dalilah, Dill, and Lavender are all spayed/neutered, have all their shots, are litter-box trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. The cat rescue invites all to join from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Cobble Cat, at 196 Laurel Ave., Northport for its Kitten and Cat Adoption Event. If you are interested in meeting Dalilah, Dill, and Lavender, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet them or any of the other kittens and cats. You can also call NCRA at 631-606-2631 or email it at [email protected].
