No Wolf Hunt Licenses Issued Yet In WI: DNR

MILWUAKEE, WI — State hunters and trappers haven't received licenses to participate in the fall 2021 wolf hunt, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced Wednesday. The wildlife agency said it's working on completing a wolf management plan after a judge ruled Friday to set the wolf hunt kill quota to zero until the agency can finish formal wolf management rules. Dane County Circuit Court Judge Jacob Frost reduced the statewide hunt quota from 130 to zero Friday in response to lawsuits by several wildlife advocacy organizations, including Animal Wellness Action. Before that, the wildlife agency lowered the quota from 300 to 130 on Oct. 4 in response to lawsuits from both Ojibwe tribes and wildlife advocacy groups. Livestock and pet owners who suspected wolves have targeted their animals should call the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services at 800-228-1368 in northern Wisconsin and 800-433-0663 in southern Wisconsin.
