Description

ARLINGTON, MA — Work to install short-term safety improvements at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Appleton Street began in Arlington Heights over the weekend. Road work, which includes updating existing paving markings to accommodate an eastbound bike lane and other safety features, was put on hold Monday and Tuesday due to the weather. Once it resumes, it is expected to be completed within three days. See the project area below: No parking zones will be in place as needed. The work zone will remain accessible most of the time, with possible limited detours. During construction, access to driveways, certain road sections and portions of the sidewalk may be closed on a temporary basis. After these short-term safety improvements completed, and during months when glare is significant, there will be no left turn from Massachusetts Avenue westbound to Appleton Street or Appleton Place. Cones will continue to be used to denote this restriction at those times. The town plans to develop a long-term solution for the intersection, such as a fixed traffic signal, and is pursuing grant opportunities to fund the project.
