SILVER SPRING, MD — The Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District released a list of entertainment venues that are requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result for all guests. The purpose, it said, is to give people places they can socialize with less stress. "I am really pleased so many entertainment venues in Silver Spring are offering options to people who are eager to resume pre-pandemic activities but are wary of exposing their family and neighbors to COVID-19," said Silver Spring Regional Services Center Director Jacob Newman in a news release. "The Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment district has weekly farmers markets, festivals, breweries, restaurants, and a whole variety of arts offerings to enjoy. There is something safe and fun for every member of the family to enjoy." The four venues included are: The AFI Silver Theatre The Fillmore Silver SpringBlack Box TheaterMontgomery College Cultural Arts Center The AFI Silver Theatre shows a variety of films, The Fillmore has live music, and the Black Box Theater and Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center feature theatre. More venues may be added to the list of those requiring vaccinations or tests, and an updated list can be found on the entertainment district's website. Masks are required indoors everywhere in Montgomery County, following a Board of Health order in August when coronavirus transmission reached substantial levels. That could change soon, as the transmission level fell to moderate just last week. If the county is able to stay at that level for seven consecutive days, the mandate will be lifted.
