ARLINGTON, VA — The family of a man who was killed in a Ballston apartment in January 2020 has doubled the reward they are offering for information that leads to an arrest in the case, the Arlington County Police Department said Wednesday. The family of Scott Ratigan increased the reward fund from $25,000 to $50,000, hoping it will help the police investigation. Ratigan, 24, was found dead in the Ballston home of a relative on Jan. 17, 2020. Arlington County police released surveillance video in January 2021 showing a person of interest wanted in connection with Ratigan's death. The person of interest is described as a white male, around 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing between 150 and 175 pounds. In the video, he is dressed all in black and walks with his feet turned inward. Officers were dispatched Jan. 17, 2020 around 5:29 p.m., to the 800 block of N. Randolph Street for the report of a cardiac arrest. Arriving on the scene, they located Ratigan's body inside the a bedroom of the residence. He was suffering from upper body trauma and medics on the scene pronounced him dead. The Ratigan family is announcing an increase in their reward fund from $25,000 to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for Scott Ratigan's homicide on January 17, 2020. Evidence recovered from the residence showed that someone had attempted to clean up the crime scene before fleeing. Arlington County police said Wednesday they are continuing "to follow-up on any and all investigative leads in this case and remind the public that any information, regardless of how small it may seem, could be the tip that leads to justice on behalf of Scott and the Ratigan family."
