MERCER COUNTY, NJ — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women, have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office observed Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and as it comes to an end, have reminded the community that they are here to help.
"Domestic violence transcends all boundaries: age, gender, race, ethnic, geographical, economic and sexual orientation," the Prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The office provides applications for temporary restraining orders (TRO) Monday through Friday during business hours at the Mercer County Civil Courthouse located at 175 South Broad Street in Trenton.
After business hours and on weekends, TRO applications can be made at the local police department. The County's Office of Victim Witness Advocacy also provides assistance at (609) 989-6428.
The New Jersey Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential access to domestic violence information and services, including crisis intervention, referral, and advocacy. The service is bilingual and accessible to the hearing impaired. Call the hotline at 1 (800) 572-SAFE (7233). It is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
