HOUSTON, TX — Bond was set at $1 million for the boyfriend charged with murder in a child abandonment case in Houston on Wednesday, court documents show. Brian Coulter was charged with murder Tuesday evening after three children were found abandoned in a southwest Houston apartment Sunday with the skeletal remains of their sibling. The children, all boys, were ages 15, 10 and 7 years old. Gloria Williams, the children's mother, also was arrested Tuesday and charged with injury to a child by omission, injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and tampering with evidence (human corpse), court documents show. Her bond for the combined charges is set at $375,000. Live in Houston? Click here to subscribe to our free breaking news alerts delivered to your inbox and mobile devices. The victim was 8 years old at the time of his killing, which authorities believe happened around Thanksgiving 2020, and he died from blunt force injuries, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at a news conference Wednesday morning. The children were found in a southwest Houston apartment complex on Green Crest near Westpark Tollway on Sunday afternoon after police received a call from the 15-year-old boy explaining his sibling had been dead for a year and that his body was still in the apartment. The children had been abandoned for several months in "deplorable conditions," Gonzalez said. The carpets were soiled and no furniture or bedding was in the apartment, which was infested with flies and roaches, according to Gonzalez, who added that Williams occasionally had food delivered or dropped off. "I didn't see anything healthy, mostly noodles and chips and soft drinks," Gonzalez said. The children were "very thin and hungry," said Sgt. Dennis Wofford, the lead investigator on the case. Investigators bought food for the boys — Shipley's Do-Nuts, at their request — who are now in the custody of Child Protective Services. Wofford said the children's testimony will be important for the case against Coulter. The youngest child had an untreated injury to his jaw and will have to undergo surgery, Gonzalez said.
