The Halloween display and lights are available Monday through Friday at 8:30 p.m. Lights go out at 9:30 p.m. on weekends. The display will be up through mid-November and will transition to a Holiday Yule Ball theme through Christmas. Owner Joel Pace has been wowing Austinites with his magical Harry Potter-themed display in south Austin since 2017. Pace told KXAN he first started the display to cheer up his wife who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, the display has gotten bigger and better, however, COVID-19 has forced Pace to change things up to keep the community safe. Before the pandemic, he would build a walk-through Diagon Alley with many interactive displays. However, he has put the display on the shelf until the pandemic is over. While it's free to visit, Joel is also raising money for multiple charities including Foster Angels of Central Texas, Variety-the Children's Charity of Texas and Zach Theaters pre-professional company. Joel and his family are even making Harry Potter-themed gifts for some of the kids. Pace has set up a GoFundMe for people to donate to help keep the display going. The Halloween home will also have a cauldron where people can drop off money at the castle as well. If you plan on stopping by the family wants everyone to know that masks are required if you are getting close and congregating in one area.
