If you lost a pet or found one following the storm, call 311 for shelters near you. Posting on Nextdoor and other social media has also helped with pet reunions as well, according to a local shelter. On Tuesday, the Bradshaw Animal Shelter is beginning a campaign to help reunite people with their furry friends by waiving owner redemption fees through Nov. 1. Stop by between 12 pm and 4:30 pm with proof of ownership. (KCRA3) Working to ensure equity and equal investment throughout the Sacramento region and across the state has earned a local leader a prestigious national honor. (ABC10)Despite historic rain over the weekend and a healthy helping of snow in the Sierra, California still has a long way to go before the drought is over. Even though Sacramento had three month's worth of rainfall in a single day (!), reservoirs are still woefully low. Folsom Lake stands at 27% capacity despite rising 12 feet in capacity. Shasta Lake is at 22% capacity and has risen 3 feet and Oroville stands at 26% of capacity. Dave Rizzardo is a hydrology section manager with the California Department of Water Resources. He said for Oroville alone, it requires at least another 2 1/2 million acre-feet just for the water level to return to the top. The change comes as plants generally need less water during fall and winter months. Watering is allowed on either Saturday or Sunday, at any time of day. No weekday watering is permitted. And, probably, you can skip it altogether this week given the epic storm we just weathered. Sacramento's official leaf season starts Nov. 1, 2021 and runs through Jan. 23, 2022. During this time, residents can place leaves and other yard waste in piles on the street for pickup. However, curbside container service will continue and will come more often than the claw used for street leaf pile pickup. The Recycling and Solid Waste division asks that people fill their yard waste containers first. From our sponsors β€” thanks for supporting local news!
