NASHUA, NH — On Tuesday, when Nashua voters go to the polls, they will consider another proposal to permit a physical sportsbook betting location in the city. Two years ago, voters rejected the proposal by around 65 votes. The location was slated to be at Boston Billiards Club & Casino, the charitable gaming facility. If approved, the city will join 20 other New Hampshire communities that have retail sports betting locations. Voters in Berlin, Claremont, Franklin, Laconia, Manchester, and Somersworth all approved proposals in 2019 while Belmont, Candia, Derry, Hampton, Hinsdale, Hudson, Londonderry, Newmarket, Pelham, Pembroke, Rollinsford, Salem, Seabrook, and Windham approved sportsbook retail locations during town meetings in 2020. Charlie McIntyre, the executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery, said officials were working with communities to make sure voters understood the sports betting programs and providing insight if needed. The lottery's vendor, DraftKings, first launched a sports betting app in December 2019. Later, three retail locations were opened — the DraftKings Sportsbook at the Brook in Seabrook and DraftKings Sportsbook at Filotimo, in Manchester and Dover. As many as 10 retail locations will be allowed in New Hampshire, according to state law. More than 65,000 players have registered and placed more than 18 million best. The value of those bets is around $730 million. The lottery has contributed more than $2.3 billion to education in the state. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected].
