Bolingbrook Honors 3 Retiring Battalion Chiefs

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Bolingbrook Village Board recognized three retiring battalion chiefs at its Tuesday meeting. Battalion chiefs Ronald Banda, Todd Nemeth and Daniel Ross were also each recognized for 30 years of service at the meeting. Bolingbrook Fire Chief Jeff Lajoie said Banda started with the fire department in 1984, and became a battalion chief in 2008. He led "A shift" for the department, and was the head of the department's technical rescue team and vehicle maintenance program. Nemeth started with the fire department in 1988, and became a battalion chief in 2016. He was the battalion chief in charge of the EMS division, Lajoie said. Ross also started with the department in 1988, and became a battalion chief in 2006, Lajoie said. He was in charge of the department's training division, and became battalion chief for the "C shift" of the department in 2016. "The department's really going to miss you," Lajoie said. "...These guys formulated the department." As a result of the retiring battalion chiefs, the fire department also promoted several firefighters to open positions. Christopher Brophy, Edgar Hughes and Christopher Jostes were sworn in as battalion chiefs; and Daniel Kerkstra, Ryan Klavohn and Juan Gomez were sworn in as lieutenants.
