ASU Homecoming Will Cause Street Closures, Bus Detours In Tempe

TEMPE, AZ — Arizona State University will mark its homecoming weekend with a block party and football game on Saturday, and Tempe residents should note the street closures and bus detours the celebrations will cause. The ASU Homecoming Block Party and Parade, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30 and kick off with a parade of student organization floats, a marching band, community organizations and more. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on University Drive between Forest Avenue and McAllister Avenue, causing closures of those streets and others in the area. At noon on Saturday the ASU Sun Devils will take on the Washington State Cougars at Sun Devil Stadium, and city officials are suggesting attendees avoid traffic and parking hassles by taking public transportation there and back. Tempe buses run until 11 p.m., the free Orbit shuttles run until 10 p.m., and the light rail will operate past midnight. Officials said passengers can park at a park-and-ride location (Dorsey and Apache, McClintock and Apache or Price and Apache) and ride the light rail for $2 each way to the game.
