CHANDLER, AZ — An 18-year-old male has been arrested on a hit-and-run charge, almost one week after the vehicle he was driving lost control and struck a mother and child walking along a sidewalk, police said. Luis Romo-Valadez was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after his father reported to police that his son had returned from Mexico with new damage to the Ford Mustang, which is registered in the father's name, the Chandler Police Department said. Romo-Valadez's father told police that his son fled the collision scene because he was scared, which Romo-Valadez also admitted to Officer J. Angulo, police said. Romo-Valadez has no previous arrest or conviction record, police said. On Thursday, Oct. 21, a mother was pushing her child in a stroller when a Ford Mustang traveling northbound on California Street lost control, striking them both before leaving the scene. The mother and child were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, police said. Read more: Chandler Hit And Run: Police Looking For Driver Of Ford Mustang
